Governor Shumlin lauded her initiative and pluck in his remarks. Governor Shumlin with St Johnsbury Academy freshman Angela Kubicke at UVM Friday. A few Vermonters, mistaking the motto for Spanish, voiced their disapproval in strong terms of what they saw as un-American immigrant-coddling.The story caught the attention of the national media, the critics were roundly ridiculed, order was restored and Kubicke emerged as a kind of hero and poster child for the virtues of education. Some months later, after a local TV station posted the motto on its website and asked for comments, all heck broke loose. She submitted it to her state senator, Joe Benning, who began the process of making it law. Kubicke had penned the motto - Stella quarta decima fulgeat (May the fourteenth star shine bright) – innocently enough last year when she was a student at the Riverside School in Lyndonville. They were attracted by a truly momentous development: Governor Peter Shumlin made an appearance at noon to sign into law Vermont’s new Latin motto, with its author, ninth grader Angela Kubicke, at his side. The toga-clad kids were there acting goofy and competing as usual, but so was a small army of Vermont’s finest print and broadcast journalists. With close to a thousand Vermont middle and high school kids donning togas, acting out skits in Latin and competing in Scholars-Bowl-like competitions, UVM’s annual Latin Day is usually good for a story or two in the Vermont media.īut the 2015 edition, which took place Friday, was different. The Latin reference from the governor mimics Julius Caesar who said, "Veni, vidi, vici," meaning I came, I saw, I conquered in Shumlin's case it means: I came, I saw, I signed. ![]() The motto joins Vermont’s English motto, “Freedom and Unity.” The idea for an official Latin motto came from St Johnsbury Academy freshman Angela Kubicke, who attended the signing, as did the bill’s sponsor Senator Joe Benning (R-Caledonia). ![]() Therefore, component testing gives many benefits, such as faster design processes, less design iterations, less likely failures in final validation. If all earlier verification steps worked out well, the final full car validation is less likely to produce significant iterations of reworking the design. With this decomposition approach, the single components can be properly developed with derived local mechanical environment requirements and tested against these requirements (verification) long before a full car is produced for the first time. ![]() Typically, performance and safety testing are not only done on the full product level (in this case a complete real life production car) but taken down to lower component level in the V-model happening at an earlier stage in the product development process. This leads to the important aspects of the location of a component in a vehicle and the interaction between vehicle and battery pack. When giving recommendations regarding test details it further distinguishes between different sizes of the battery pack, its location in the car and the interaction between the vehicle body, chassis and the battery pack. The most recent testing standard for BEV RESS battery packs is the ISO 19453-6. Several contributions like propose different testing profiles, mostly remaining under the ISO 16750-3 test levels for components attached to the vehicle body. A comprehensive older overview can be found in, a more recent one in. Over the past years many more testing specifications for BEV components in general or even specific to RESS in BEV have come into practice. In general practice, many test campaigns have been based on the ISO 16750-3 mechanical environmental test specifications so far. One of the uncertainties involved is, that vibration testing standards so far are mainly derived from the ICE environments. Tests on vehicle level are then finally undertaken for high-level verification and validation.Īs current BEV do not show a higher risk of catching fire than current Internal Combustions Cars (ICE), especially from mechanical induced failures, the current battery designs seem to be mostly conservative with enough safety margins to cover the uncertainties always arising with new technological approaches. Hence, the safety critical battery components are typically tested on various levels from cell, over module to battery pack/traction battery. Lithium-Ion RESS pose a potential fire risk when, i.e., an internal or external electrical short-circuit occurs, which may be induced by a mechanical deformation or mechanical contact of power conducting subcomponents of a battery, the cables or the corresponding power electronics. Further loadings include door slams and crash scenarios. For Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) this includes mechanical environments of the interaction between vehicle and ground as well as self-induced vibrations and shocks from internal sources, as for example the electric motor or gear boxes. Most mobile applications add further mechanical environments that need to be taken into account for the requirements engineering as well as the verification and validation. This is particularly true for Lithium-Ion based Rechargeable Energy Storage Systems (RESS), which are treated under the UN Dangerous Goods Convention and need to undergo at least a risk mitigation scheme for transportation environments described in UN38.3. Shock and Vibration Testing is a crucial task for evaluating performance characteristics and ensuring safety functions and mechanical environments in nearly any mobile application. Keywords: Battery electric vehicle BEV shock and vibration vehicle floor bending rechargeable energy storage system RESS Additionally, it will cover an outlook on how vibration behavior of highly integrated approaches (cell2car) changes the mechanical loads on the cells. The contribution will further show what implication these findings have on future vibration & shock testing equipment for large traction batteries. Especially the analysis on global bending transfer functions and local corner bending coherence indicate that neither a fully stiff fixation of the battery nor a completely independent movement on the four corners yields a realistic and conservative test scenario. The focus lies on the requirements for a realistic replication of the mechanical environments in a testing laboratory. Abstract: This contribution shows an analysis of vibration measurement on large floor-mounted traction batteries of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV). ![]() ![]() I’ve had past experiences with AquaGuards “peeling” over time, but no such occurrences with this specific style of AquaGuard. The 840D nylon face is water-proof, and all the zippers are YKK AquaGuards (as one would expect!) – so this bag isn’t scared of a little drizzle. I would not question recommending this to men or women, as I think it would function well on many body frames. My wife (about 63″) did find it a little large – but she’s also much less familiar with daily carrying a backpack, and I imagine some of the comfort comes from familiarity. I’m a relatively small-framed person (about 69″ and 130 lbs.) and this bag, while sort of wide in shape, didn’t look out of place on my back by any means. Even when fully loaded (including 2 laptops – unnecessary for me, but worth a test), it didn’t feel overly heavy or uncomfortable on my shoulders. They aren’t mutually exclusive, of course, but this is a workhorse bag, and it better have fit the things I need before I worry about its shoulder straps.įortunately, as with my previous Aer experiences, the Tech Pack 2 carries extremely well. Whereas most packs I start with how it carries on my back and shoulders and then work inwards, my first priority for the Tech Pack 2 was how much stuff I could fit in it, and then how comfortable it was once fully loaded. The Tech Pack 2 is a bag that I sort of evaluate “inside out” (figuratively, and in this case, literally). And, most of all, I cannot express how many compliments of “rad bag!” I received. COVID-19 has a put a damper on all of our EDCs, and while I have been lucky enough to get the Tech Pack 2 safely, and sanitarily, out of the house, I have only limited experience with use on public transit, which is a huge factor for a commuter like me. I’ll add here – writing bag reviews at a time like this must, of course, be put in perspective… especially when discussing a bag that’s meant to travel around town with your mobile office. This photo is from Aer – I can never get my knolling shots right. well to the office, once, but also around my block, around my condo, up and down my stairs a bunch, to the grocery store, to Staples, to Walgreen’s, and basically everywhere – even if it as somewhere I wasn’t bringing tech – to get this thing tested. The Tech Pack 2 is, on (digital?) paper, my dream bag. Oh, but it is! The Tech Pack 2 is the bag for nerds, for geeks, for hustlers who aren’t out to ruck in the backwoods or trek cross-country with a single bag, but instead for those who have a lot of work to get done, and need a lot of gear to do it. Perhaps no bag brings together those themes like the Tech Pack 2, a distinctly black backpack that’s so subtle, you might not (were you not a dedicated TPP reader) recognize it as something special. There are several different styles, but all seem to riff on a similar motif: muted colors, stripped-back design (especially in the exterior), and 21st century features. They’re centered around (as they profess) simplicity, durability, and utility. This malware-like behavior has been reported to Apple’s product security team. The extension itself serves only to direct searches to a specific Yahoo Search BOSS address, as described for some nearly identical adware in InstallCore adware proliferates. The adware that this app installs takes the form of a “Jeff Kekko” browser extension, supposedly made by someone named Jeffrey Kekkonen. When run in a virtual system in Parallels, however, this installer skips over the Configure phase entirely! No adware or third-party junk software is offered or installed. This is not particularly new, and has been described here before, although never with an installer downloaded directly from the MPlayerX site. When run on a “real” computer, the installer goes through a “Configure” phase in which it offers a Yahoo Search extension (adware), a copy of MacKeeper and a copy of ZipCloud. This is done because malware researchers often run malware in a virtual machine, because this isolates the malware and makes it easy to store the system’s infected state for later reference or revert the system to a previous state.Ī new MPlayerX installer, this time available directly from the MPlayerX website, is exhibiting exactly this behavior. Malware that detects that it is being run in a virtual machine, for example, will not display any malicious behaviors.
